It's been a long month (or 2)...

Thank God the holidays are over! Christmas just about killed me. We finally got Alec's room done. Finished the painting before we left to visit family for Christmas. We put the furniture together when we got back. He loved it. His reaction really made it worth it for me. He still gives us hugs and says thank you for his new "grown up" room. Such a sweet boy.

The red and blue blanket totally doesn't go with his room, I know. In cleaning out his old room I found it up in his closet. It was a blanket that his great-great grandma made for him when he was born. He loves it so we put it on his bed.

I humbly as for prayers if you are so inclined. My very good friend Erika's little boy Jake has been in the hospital for the past few weeks. Very sick, with a bad case of strep, and RSV amoung other things. He was finally taken off the ventilator and they took the intibation tube out, now is the road to recovery which will be a hard one. Currently he is going through withdrawls from the morpheine he was on while intibated. So if you have a moment, please say a prayer for him.

On the crafting front.... I have a few projects in the works. I just finished a pretty big page kit swap. I have also been working on some cards and started an album using the new piggy tales flap album. (I got the slide one too)
you can see it here at http://www.piggytales.com/ . I have plans to work on it today. I'll post pics when I finish.

I am in the process now of getting Alec's old room transformed into the new guest room/office/craft room. This is what it looks like currently

Yup, the blue wall is going, as are the curtians (neon blue dragons and flames really aren't my thing. those are a LOONG story for another day). I have gotten all the stuff off the walls and patched the holes. I am still trying to decide on a paint color. The room gets so much light I could go with a darker color, but I am not sure that I want to do that. I go back and forth between colors. First it was warmer colors, golds and reds. Then to greens, right now I am thinking of brown walls and white trim. But that will probably change tommrow. I gotta primer first anyway so I have a little time to decide. But I need to get it done asap because I am sick of having the computer in the bedroom and all my stuff in boxes scattered around the house.
Well back to my paint chips.

Stuff I love

In my work room now...

Ribbons & Flowers. I keep them in cleaned jars from peanut butter, spag. sauce etc. I started painting lids but I need more jars and plan on getting the nice ones from hobby lobby as they go on sale.
The little tin box I got from Target's dollar spot. I have 3 & LOVE them! too cute and perfect for holding little odds and ends.

This picture of Cole I took last year when we went to the firestation. It's framed & I need to take it down to the firestation office. I just haven't had the time. For the time being it sits on my little side table.

BIG paper!! I love it! It's perfect for doing altered projects, covering albums etc. These were my most recent purchases. I roll them up, tie with some ribbon and they finally have a home in this green bucket I got from Walmart. (better than rolling around on the top shelf of my closet)

Oh, and the room is clean!

The sad little card table is where I work currently. Untill I can get my countertops from Ikea. Tho it has been so long, I am starting to re-think what I had planned...

The guest bed. It was given to us by my grandma when we moved. It was taking up space in her garage and she had no use for it. It's a metal frame, used to be white, but wasn't really pretty looking. (lots of chips in the paint, marks all over it) I spent a week last summer re-finishing it. Sanding it and spray painting it with some black textured spray paint. It looks and feels like wrought iron. The quilt and the pillow I made myself. My first attempt at quilting. It too is NOT pretty, too short for the bed, totally un-even. It's only slightly embarassing. I did it without a pattern or anything.

It's nice to have a clean space to work in. Yesterday Cole wasn't feeling too good, so while i was working on cubscouts stuff and working on our summer calendar he laid down in the guest bed and napped.

So the bed is all ready for a guest! (hint! hint!) you know who you are!!!

My Scrap/Craft/Guest/Office Room, The Saga Continues...

This has been a long time comming! I finally made some major progress in the room! As you can see I have the accent wall painted. The stripes are done! I think it looks great but I doubt I will ever attempt this again! We have textured walls throughout the house and trying to get a clean line for the stripes with the textured walls is just impossible! I used blue painters tape (Derek helped me so the stripes would be straight) and thought it had it on the wall real good but the paint ended up seeping under the tape. I had to go along each line with a foam brush with more white paint to clean it up. That took me forever! I DO NOT reccomend this if you have any sort of texture on your walls! I painted the rest of the room with the Russian Blue Paint from Behr. The room looks great. Painting the walls has made me realize that I need better lighting in there now. So the next expense will probably be a new light fixture for the room, preferably a ceiling fan since some afternoons it can get pretty hot in here!
For painting the stripes I used 3 different shades of blue. 10" stripes of Bleached Denim, 6" Stripes of Windsor Haze & 3" stripes of Russian Blue, all by Behr in eggshell finish.
