My kids don't watch tv, pretty much at all during the week when school is in session. My husband and I are strict on that. They can watch tv on the weekends only if they are caught up on school work. With our ADD child, it just makes managing it easier.
When they get to watch tv on the weekend they don't watch cartoons. They tend to gravitate more towards the military channel, the discovery channels and the travel channel. Their absolute FAVORITE show, Man V Food. They love to watch Bourdain, and Zimmern's shows but Adam Richman is their favorite.
Yesterday the Bear had a football game in Hutto, which is north east of Austin. It was a LOVELY rainy day (yes, the little kids STILL play if it is raining, and it was POURING). We decided to treat the kids on the way to breakfast, somewhere they have been asking about ever since they saw the MVF Austin episode. Round Rock Donuts for the Big Texas donut.
It's HUGE. (as you can see)
They were so excited. Seriously giddy as we waited in line. The line which snaked 3 times inside the store then went out the door and almost around the building. They also have a drive thru which on this day, the cars were lined up out the parking lot and down the street and almost around the corner.
Round Rock Donuts has Krispy Kreme beat 100 ways from Sunday. It was amazing, light, airy and just plain yummy. The Big Texas Donut is the equivalent of about a dozen regular donuts. Costs only $5.50 and comes in regular glazed and chocolate glazed (which is what we got)
The two of them ate the whole thing pretty much all by themselves. Derek and I broke off a couple small pieces, but they just about inhaled it.
I HIGHLY suggest that if you are ever in the Austin area go get you a donut from Round Rock Donuts! You don't have to get the Big Texas Donut, but it is kinda fun.
The boys have decided that they want to visit as many of the restaurants featured on MVF as we can. So this marks #2 for us since a visit to the Salt Lick in Driftwood TX is a regular trip for us.
So look out soon for more posts from Alec & the Bear in their food adventures.
